Emilio Reyna was born on November 26, 1927. From the age of 8 to 11 years old, he worked on his native city's local radio station as a DJ. Between the years 1920 and 1952, he spent most of his time in various radio stations in the states of Hidalgo and Mexico. As he aged, he began to write songs. Between 1953 and 1957, he would record many songs in the U.S. To escape their war-torn country, the family moved to Mexico City, where Reyna began to work as an actor and a producer. On December 5, 1962, he married Esther Saiz (daughter of the legendary Spanish songwriter Mario Saiz), who would become the band's manager. Their first studio session yielded the album \"Texhaka,\" recorded by Juan Saiz. The second studio session yielded \"Ninguna Preciosidad Sin Amor\" (\"No Preciousness Without Love\") in 1966. The couple divorced in January 1976. In November of 1980, Emilio Reyna met Louise Bennett, a former OPM pop star, at a clinic. They were married on May 12, 1982, in a publicity stunt meant to build the band's popularity. Their first child, Cristal, was born in December of 1981. The second was Emilio \"Oso\" Reyna, born on June 28, 1983. (The original Reyna and his brother took the name of their first child, Cristal; their bandmates took the name Oso, after Emilio's new nickname.) Just after the name change, in September 1982, Reyna founded Grupo Pegasso. By July of 1983, the band debuted in concert. The group had three albums in the Top 100 of the best-sellers chart. On March 9, 1985, Emilio Reyna issued his first Ábrelos album. In a pitfall of success, he began to recruit several other singers, until he settled with Daniela Romo in 1986. On November 30, 1990, he released the albums Rodando De Cabeza (\"Heading Forward\") and Cumbia Ya! (\"Cumbia, Yes!\") (both released on the same day), followed by Viva la Cumbia in 1991.
